Louisville crash what do I save right now before Uber deletes everything?
The biggest screwup is thinking Uber, DoorDash, the police, or some insurance adjuster will preserve the evidence for you - they won't, so save it yourself immediately.
- If you can still access the app, screenshot everything now: trip request, pickup/dropoff, timestamp, route, fare, customer name, in-app messages, cancellation screens, and whether you were "online" or on an active delivery. Gig companies change screens fast and records disappear behind support walls.
- If police responded, get the report number before you forget it. In Louisville, that is usually LMPD. If the crash was outside Jefferson County, it may be Kentucky State Police or another local department. Save the officer's name, unit, and the exact location, like I-264, Bardstown Road, Dixie Highway, or the Watterson.
- If there is video, grab it before it loops over. Dashcams, gas stations, apartment buildings, and store cameras may delete footage in days, sometimes hours. Photograph the business name and address and ask for the footage to be preserved.
- If you were hurt, photograph injuries now and again tomorrow. Bruising, swelling, eye injuries, and seatbelt marks often look worse later. Save discharge papers, prescriptions, bills, and mileage to treatment. If you were transferred to a trauma center like UK Chandler Hospital, keep every transfer and imaging record.
- If witnesses stopped, get more than a first name. You need full name, phone, and what they saw in one sentence typed into your phone.
- If you spoke on the phone, preserve the call log. Screenshot incoming and outgoing calls with Uber support, the customer, police, and the other driver. Also save texts and voicemails.
- If your car has onboard data, don't rush repairs. Photos first, tow yard location, black-box download request, and property inside the car.
Kentucky cases also get messy because PIP/no-fault can pay early medical bills, but medical debt, subrogation, and lien fights show up fast during tax season when people are desperate for cash. Save every bill from day one.
